Itinerary Overview: Day 1 – Arrival in Istanbul
We will meet at Malta International Airport and be greeted by our tour leader to check in for our flight to Istanbul, scheduled to depart at 10:50 hrs. Upon arrival in Istanbul, we will proceed to our hotel for check-in. After everyone has had time to settle in, we will enjoy a group dinner together, followed by an overnight stay to rest and recharge for the adventures ahead.
Itinerary Overview: Day 2 – Discovering Istanbul’s Historical Treasures
After breakfast at the hotel, we will begin our exploration of Istanbul’s ancient peninsula. Our first stop will be the Hippodrome, once the site of chariot races, followed by visits to the iconic obelisks. We will then marvel at the stunning Sultan Ahmet Mosque (Blue Mosque) and the Church of Hagia Sophia, a masterpiece of Byzantine architecture.
After lunch, we will visit the Topkapi Palace, including the Harem section, once home to the Ottoman Sultans, and the Church of Saint Irene. We will also explore the Underground Roman Cistern, an impressive feat of ancient engineering.
In the evening, you have the option to join a Bosphorus Dinner & Show Cruise (optional tour), enjoying views of both the Asian and European sides of Istanbul. Alternatively, those who prefer can have a relaxed dinner at the hotel before an overnight stay.
Itinerary Overview: Day 3 – Exploring Ottoman Splendor and Byzantine Heritage
After breakfast at the hotel, we will visit the majestic Dolmabahce Palace, including the opulent Harem section. Built in European style, it was the main administrative center of the Ottoman Empire from 1856 to 1922, reflecting the grandeur of the era.
Next, we will head to the Rustem Pasa Mosque, a stunning example of Ottoman architecture and tile work designed by Sinan in 1560. We will then explore the vibrant Spice Market (Egyptian Market), offering a sensory experience with its spices, coffee, sweets, and fruits.
After lunch, we will visit the historic neighborhoods of Balat and Fener, home to the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople, a major site of Orthodox Christianity. We will end the day with a visit to the Grand Bazaar, the world’s largest covered market, where you can shop for everything from jewellery to antiques.
We will return to the hotel for dinner and an overnight stay.
Itinerary Overview: Day 4 – Journey to the Wonders of Cappadocia
After breakfast at the hotel, we will check out and be driven to the airport to board our plane to visit the captivating region of Cappadocia. Upon arrival, our local representative will greet us and begin our adventure in this unique landscape.
Our first stop will be one of Cappadocia’s intriguing underground cities, such as Ozkonak, Saratli, or Mazi. These underground complexes, once used as shelters by early Christians, feature impressive networks of tunnels and rooms.
After a lunch break, we will visit the stunning Pink Valley, known for its striking pink rock formations. This surreal valley is home to ancient rock-hewn churches that offer a glimpse into the area’s religious history.
Next, we head to the troglodyte village of Cavusin, perched on a cliffside. This abandoned village is famous for its labyrinth of cave dwellings and the Church of St. John the Baptist, one of the oldest churches in the region.
We will also stop by a workshop to observe skilled artisans craft precious stones, gold, and silver, offering insight into Cappadocia’s fine craftsmanship.
Finally, we will transfer to the hotel for check-in and enjoy dinner, followed by an overnight stay to unwind after a day of exploration.
Itinerary Overview: Day 5 – Exploring the Wonders of Cappadocia
After breakfast at the hotel, you have the option to join a thrilling hot air balloon ride (optional, for an additional fee and subject to weather conditions). This unforgettable experience offers a unique perspective of Cappadocia’s otherworldly landscape, bathed in the soft glow of the early morning light.
Our exploration begins with a visit to one of Cappadocia’s iconic valleys, such as Devrent Valley, Pigeon Valley, or Avcilar Valley. These landscapes, shaped by wind and time, feature stunning rock formations, peaks, and obelisks. We will then visit the UNESCO-listed Goreme Open Air Museum, known for its fairy chimneys and ancient rock-carved churches adorned with beautiful frescoes.
Next stop will be a visit at a traditional carpet cooperative to discover the art of handwoven Turkish carpets, showcasing the region’s rich craftsmanship.
After lunch, we’ll visit the impressive Citadel of Uchisar, carved into a towering cone of volcanic rock, offering panoramic views of the surrounding area. We will also explore the historic village of Mustafapasa (formerly Sinasos), known for its well-preserved Greek Orthodox heritage. The village’s stone buildings, with intricate designs and celestial painted decorations, offer a glimpse into Cappadocia’s prosperous past.
After a day full of exploration, we will return to the hotel for dinner and an overnight stay. In the evening, there will be an optional opportunity to experience the mesmerizing Whirling Dervishes performance, a captivating spiritual dance that has been part of Turkish culture for centuries (included).
Itinerary Overview: Day 6 – Journey to Konya and Pamukkale
After breakfast at the hotel, we will check out and begin our journey to Konya, a city known for its spiritual significance and connection to Mevlana Rumi, the famous Muslim mystic and poet who founded the Whirling Dervish movement. Rumi’s teachings, centered around love, unity, and spiritual growth, have made Konya a place of deep spiritual reverence.
In Konya, we will visit the Mausoleum of Mevlana, a sacred pilgrimage site that has been transformed into a museum. The atmosphere here is imbued with religious devotion, offering a profound insight into the spiritual history of the region.
After lunch, we will continue our journey toward Pamukkale. Upon arrival, we will check into our hotel and have time to relax and settle in.
Dinner will be served at the hotel, followed by an overnight stay to rest and recharge for the next day’s exploration.
Itinerary Overview: Day 7 – Exploring Hierapolis, Pamukkale, and Ephesus
After breakfast at the hotel we will check out and begin our journey through the ancient city of Hierapolis, which was rebuilt after the devastating earthquake of 17 AD. This UNESCO World Heritage site is filled with fascinating ruins that reveal its rich history. We will then visit Pamukkale, famous for its striking white terraces and natural pools formed by centuries of flowing limestone-rich water. The name “Pamukkale,” meaning “cotton fortress,” perfectly describes this surreal landscape, where petrified waterfalls create a magical, timeless scene.
After a break for lunch, we’ll continue to the legendary city of Ephesus, one of the best-preserved ancient cities in the world. Here, we’ll explore the Temple of Hadrian, the majestic Library of Celsus, and the impressive Great Theater. We’ll also visit the Ephesus Experience Museum, where interactive exhibits bring the city’s fascinating history to life.
We will make a stop at a local leather goods shop, offering the chance to explore the region’s fine craftsmanship and an opportunity to buy gifts.
Our day will conclude with a visit to Izmir, Türkiye’s third-largest city, known for its beauty and vibrant culture. Upon arrival, we will check into our hotel and settle into our rooms. Dinner will be served at the hotel, followed by an overnight stay.
Itinerary Overview: Day 8 – Departure and Return to Malta
After breakfast at the hotel, we will check out and transfer to the airport for our return journey to Malta, with a connecting flight via Istanbul airport. As we bid farewell to Turkey, we take with us unforgettable memories of its rich history, breathtaking landscapes, and vibrant culture.
