Itinerary Overview: Day 1 – Arrival & Lamego
Our journey begins with a meeting at Malta International Airport at 08:45 hrs, where we will meet our Tour Leader and complete the check-in formalities before our flight to Porto, departing at 10:45 hrs.
Upon arrival at Porto Airport, we will meet our driver and begin our scenic journey to Casa dos Viscondes da Várzea. After checking in and settling into our rooms, we will reconvene and head to the centre of Lamego for our first excursion.
Accompanied by our Tour Leader, we will enjoy a walking tour through this charming historic town, seeing some of its main highlights, including the magnificent Sanctuary of Our Lady of Remedies, Lamego Cathedral, and the historic town centre.
Later in the evening, we will meet again and return to the hotel, where we will enjoy dinner together and relax after our first day in Portugal.
Itinerary Overview: Day 2 – The Heart of the Douro Valley
After breakfast, we will set off to discover the breathtaking Douro Valley, one of Portugal’s most beautiful and renowned wine regions.
Our day will take us through Peso da Régua and Pinhão, before continuing to the spectacular Casal de Loivos Viewpoint, where we can admire the stunning panoramic views over the Douro River and its surrounding vineyards.
Later, those who wish to participate may join an optional river cruise, offering a wonderful opportunity to experience the beauty of the Douro Valley from the water.
In the late afternoon, we will make our way back to the hotel, where you can relax and unwind before enjoying dinner together.
Itinerary Overview: Day 3 – Porto
After breakfast, we will set off for a full-day excursion to Porto, one of Portugal’s most vibrant and historic cities.
During our visit, we will explore the charming Ribeira district, admire the iconic Dom Luís I Bridge, and visit the beautiful São Bento Railway Station, renowned for its impressive tiled interiors. We will also pass by Clérigos Tower and the famous Livraria Lello, viewing these iconic landmarks.
There will also be time to enjoy a leisurely walk along the riverfront, taking in the lively atmosphere and beautiful views of the Douro River.
Later in the evening, we will make our way back to the hotel, where you can relax and unwind before enjoying dinner together.
Itinerary Overview: Day 4 – Amarante & Guimarães
After breakfast, we will set off for Amarante, a charming town known for its picturesque setting and historic character. During our visit, we will explore the historic centre, admire the beautiful São Gonçalo Bridge, and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere along the riverside, with time to discover some of the area’s traditional pastries.
Later in the day, we will continue our journey to Guimarães, often referred to as the birthplace of Portugal. Here, we will explore its fascinating historic heritage, strolling through the charming medieval streets and the UNESCO-listed historic centre. We will also pass by the impressive Guimarães Castle and the magnificent Palace of the Dukes of Braganza, admiring these iconic landmarks from the outside.After a full day of sightseeing and discovery, we will return to our hotel, where we can relax and enjoy dinner together.
Itinerary Overview: Day 5 – Departure
After breakfast, we will check out of the hotel and bid farewell to the beautiful Casa dos Viscondes da Várzea as we begin our final day in Portugal.
We will make our way to Vila Real, where we will see the magnificent Mateus Palace and visit the chapel and its beautiful gardens, taking some time to explore this impressive historic estate.
Following our visit, we will continue our journey towards Porto Airport, allowing sufficient time for check-in and the necessary airport formalities.
Our flight back to Malta is scheduled to depart at 17:05 hrs, bringing our wonderful Portuguese adventure to an end.
