Itinerary Overview: Day 1 – Arrival in Catania and Exploring the Historic Sights
You will meet our Tour Leader at Malta International Airport to board the KM Malta Airlines flight, scheduled to depart at 06:00hrs.
After departing the airport, our first stop will be the Centro Storico di Catania. Here, we will enjoy a leisurely stroll along the vibrant Via Etnea and visit the majestic Duomo di Catania. Following our exploration of Piazza Duomo, we will continue to the enchanting Giardino Bellini, a serene public garden offering breathtaking views of the city.
Next, we leave the city center and travel to Aci Castello, where we will visit the historic Castello Normanno, also known as the Castle of Aci. This impressive fortress is perched on a rocky promontory overlooking the sea. You will have free time to explore the area at your own pace before we embark on the Catania-Palermo Autostrada to our next destination.
Our journey will take us to Piazza Armerina, where we will check in at a luxurious four-star resort nestled in the peaceful natural surroundings of Aidone. Once settled into your rooms, you will be invited to take a familiarization walk around the estate, which is adorned with lush greenery, abundant vegetation, and farm animals.
In the evening, you will enjoy a sumptuous dinner, followed by a relaxing overnight stay at the resort.
Itinerary Overview: Day 2 – Exploring Enna – The Heart of Sicily
After breakfast, we will depart for Enna, a charming town often referred to as the “Belvedere” or “belly button” of Sicily, renowned for its breathtaking location and panoramic views. Perched 931 meters above sea level on a towering hill, Enna is the highest town in Sicily, offering spectacular vistas of the surrounding countryside.
Our first stop will be the Castello di Lombardia, an iconic fortress that dominates the town’s skyline. We will then stroll through the old town to visit the Enna Cathedral (Duomo di Enna), a prominent religious landmark dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. The cathedral showcases an exquisite fusion of Norman, Gothic, and Baroque architectural styles, making it a must-see for history and art enthusiasts.
Next, we will explore the Church of San Francesco d’Assisi, a magnificent Baroque church celebrated for its elegant façade and intricate artistic details. After taking in these remarkable sights, we will return to our coach and make our way back to the resort.
In the evening, a delightful dinner will be served.
Itinerary Overview: Day 3 – Discovering the UNESCO World Heritage Cities of Ragusa and Noto
After breakfast, we set off to explore two UNESCO World Heritage cities known for their magnificent Baroque architecture.
Our first stop is Ragusa, where we visit the charming historic district of Ragusa Ibla. Here we pass in front of the impressive Duomo di San Giorgio and admire beautiful Baroque buildings such as Palazzo Cosentini and the Church of San Giuseppe. We then continue to Ragusa Superiore, the upper town, where we see the Ragusa Cathedral dedicated to Saint John the Baptist and stop at the Hyblean Gardens for panoramic views over the town.
Later, we travel to Noto, often called the “Pearl of Baroque,” famous for its elegant streets and golden-hued architecture. Highlights include the magnificent Noto Cathedral, dedicated to Saint Nicholas, Palazzo Ducezio, and the Church of San Carlo al Corso.
In the late afternoon we return to our Agriturismo, where there will be time to relax by the pool before dinner.
Itinerary Overview: Day 4 – Relaxed day
After breakfast, you have the option of either staying at the resort for a relaxing morning, enjoying a swim in the resort’s beautiful pool, or exploring the panoramic surroundings of the Agriturismo estate. The property offers vast green spaces embellished with olive trees, firs, walnuts, poplars, pines and holm oaks that branch out along the hillsides among fruit trees.
Within the farm you can also admire a small lake full of fish, where ducks and geese swim freely. Around the lake there are several aviaries with peacocks, pheasants and other bird species.
Lunch will be served at the Agriturismo during the day.
Dinner will be served in the evening, followed by time to relax and rest.
Itinerary Overview: Day 5 – Exploring Caltagirone and Final Shopping in Sicily
After a relaxed late breakfast, we check out of the resort and begin our journey.
Our first stop is Caltagirone, a picturesque town famous for its long tradition of ceramic craftsmanship and beautiful hilltop views. During our visit we will see the iconic Scalinata di Santa Maria del Monte, the impressive 142-step staircase decorated with colourful ceramic tiles, and enjoy a short visit to a local ceramics workshop to see this traditional art. There will also be some free time to explore the charming streets of the town.
Later, we continue to Centro Sicilia, a large shopping centre with around 150 stores, where you may enjoy some last-minute shopping.
In the evening we proceed to Catania Airport for check-in, with our KM Malta flight scheduled to depart at 23:00hrs.
