A Sicilian Escape: Agriturismo Tenuta Margitello

Itinerary Overview: Day 1 – Arrival – Aci Castello – Tenuta Margitello
We will gather at Malta International Airport at 4:00 am, where we will meet our tour leader and check in for our flight to Catania, scheduled to depart at 6:00 am.
Upon arrival, we head towards Catania city centre, where we will enjoy our first taste of the vibrant Sicilian atmosphere. We then continue to the picturesque seaside village of Aci Castello, renowned for its dramatic Norman castle perched on volcanic rocks overlooking the Ionian Sea. After some time to explore and admire the spectacular coastal scenery, we make our way to Tenuta Margitello, a charming agriturismo that will be our home for the next three nights.
There will also be time to relax and enjoy the agriturismo’s swimming pools before dinner. In the evening, we gather in the resort’s restaurant to savour a wholesome meal, bringing our first day in Sicily to a delightful close.
Itinerary Overview: Day 2 – Marzamemi – Donnafugata Castle – Noto
After breakfast at the agriturismo, we depart for a full-day excursion through the enchanting southeast of Sicily.
Our first stop is the picturesque fishing village of Marzamemi, renowned for its charming atmosphere, colourful fishing boats and historic waterfront. During a walking tour with your tour leader, you will stroll through Piazza Regina Margherita, admire the elegant Palazzo di Villadorata, pass by the historic Tonnara (tuna fishery), and wander the narrow streets lined with boutiques, cafés and traditional Sicilian houses.
From here, we continue to the magnificent Donnafugata Castle, one of Sicily’s finest aristocratic residences. Explore its beautifully furnished rooms, elegant halls, peaceful courtyards and landscaped gardens while discovering the fascinating history of this remarkable estate.
In the afternoon, we visit Noto, the jewel of Sicilian Baroque and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Accompanied by your tour leader, enjoy a walking tour along Corso Vittorio Emanuele, passing the Porta Reale, the magnificent Cathedral of San Nicolò, Palazzo Ducezio, the Church of San Carlo al Corso, and numerous elegant Baroque churches and palaces that have earned Noto worldwide recognition
After some free time to soak up the atmosphere or enjoy a refreshment, we return to the agriturismo for relaxing time and dinner.
Itinerary Overview: Day 3 – Syracuse – Ortigia – Ragusa
After breakfast at the agriturismo, we set off for another full-day excursion exploring some of Sicily’s most treasured historic towns.
Our first stop is Syracuse, where we will visit the Sanctuary of the Madonna delle Lacrime, one of Sicily’s most important places of pilgrimage, renowned for the miraculous weeping image of the Virgin Mary. We will then continue into the historic centre, where your tour leader will introduce you to the rich history of one of the greatest cities of the ancient Greek world. Enjoy a leisurely walk through the elegant streets, passing Piazza Archimede with its beautiful Fountain of Diana, the lively Corso Matteotti, and the bustling local streets before crossing onto the enchanting island of Ortigia.
The historic heart of Syracuse, Ortigia captivates visitors with its narrow winding streets, magnificent architecture and charming squares. During your walking tour, you will admire the splendid Cathedral of Syracuse, built upon the remains of the ancient Temple of Athena, the elegant Piazza Duomo, the legendary Fountain of Arethusa, the Temple of Apollo, and the picturesque waterfront, while learning about the fascinating blend of Greek, Roman, Norman and Baroque influences that shaped the city.
In the afternoon, we continue to Ragusa Ibla, one of Sicily’s finest UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Your walking tour takes you through its maze of picturesque lanes, where magnificent Baroque buildings reveal themselves at every turn. Highlights include the impressive Duomo di San Giorgio, Piazza Duomo, the peaceful Giardino Ibleo, and several elegant palaces and richly decorated churches.
Following some free time to relax or enjoy a coffee, we return to the agriturismo for dinner
Itinerary Overview: Day 4 – Modica – Sicilian Lunch – Centro Sicilia Shopping
After breakfast, we check out of the agriturismo and board our coach for the final day of our Sicilian getaway.
Our first stop is the beautiful Baroque town of Modica, a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its elegant architecture and centuries-old chocolate-making tradition. Accompanied by your tour leader, enjoy a walking tour through the historic centre, admiring the magnificent Cathedral of San Giorgio, strolling along Corso Umberto I, exploring picturesque squares and narrow streets, and visiting one of Modica’s famous artisan chocolate shops.
We then continue to a traditional Sicilian masseria, where we will enjoy an authentic farm-to-table lunch showcasing the island’s rich culinary heritage.
Our final stop before departing Sicily is Centro Sicilia Shopping Centre, where you will have time for some last-minute shopping, souvenirs or simply a relaxing coffee before we make our way to Catania Airport to check in for our flight back to Malta scheduled to depart at 11:00 pm, bringing this unforgettable Sicilian adventure to a memorable close.
